POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for leading the preparation or modification of drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs utilizing a thorough knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within the mechanical engineering field in order to lead and support multiple project efforts for Fortna’s Clients. This position requires the ability to apply learned knowledge to complete tasks as assigned.



  • Leading projects through the detail design and implementation phase. This will include RFP/Supplier Selection, detailed mechanical design, ordering of equipment, development of installation drawing packages, and support of installation contractor, Project Manager, and Site Manager with installation efforts.
  • Lead and support the project transition from Ops Design to Conveyor and Sortation Engineering.
  • Updating project team on the current status of project:
    • Compiling project status reports
    • Attending project update meetings
    • Ensuring interdepartmental deliverables are provided on time
    • Ensuring project is being delivered within budget
  • Attending Client meetings as required.
  • Designing material handling systems for Bid & Proposal and implementation efforts.
  • Leading 1-2 projects and supporting multiple projects.
  • Leading design sessions, kick off meetings, and other project review meetings as required.
  • Conducting site visits to determine and validate field dimensions; supporting generation of department standard documentation.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD and DCDesigner for drawings.
  • Continuously working to solve Client needs.
  • Proactively seeking work to maintain project and departmental utilization.
  • Using current design practices for material handling systems.
  • Adhering to all Fortna and department standards.
  • Attending and documenting all required project meetings.
  • Maintaining good design notes.
  • Attending company and departmental training as required.
  • Following and providing input for improvement of Drawing Quality Control (DQC) process.
  • Constantly working to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology.
  • Being reliable; providing timely responses and consistent follow-up.
  • Leading and supporting concept design process based on input provided by Client, Account Executive, and/or Supply Chain Services.
  • Leading and supporting pricing efforts through the design process.
  • Leading and supporting RFP and supplier selection process.
  • Leading or attending Client meetings as required.
  • Leading and supporting generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Engineering Group.
  • Leading development of lessons learned document.

Experience and Skills:


  • 4 year engineering degree from an accredited college with 4 years of relevant experience, or 2 year degree from an accredited college with 8 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 15 years of relevant experience

  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD with at least 5 years practical experience

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel

  • Experience in meeting and design session leadership

  • Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position

  • Ability to present in front of others

  • Ability to self-motivate

  • Ability to work in a virtual environment

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management and problem solving skills

  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally

  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job



  • 4 year engineering degree from an accredited college

  • 5 years of operations and/or distribution experience in supply chain logistics

  • AutoCAD 3D capabilities

  • Strong leadership skills
